We just wanted to post this picture of our boy Herm. Enjoy.

I might have written and colored this sign myself, but....WE CAN BUILD ON THIS!
State of the (Jets) Fan
Posted in NFL on January 27th, 2010 by Who We Thought They WereAfter watching the State of the Union address by our fearless leader, I thought it would be appropriate to give a ‘State of the Fan’. More specifically, the state of the Jets fan. OK, really, just me.
I don’t know what it was about the 1996 Jets team that started my full-fledged following of the Jets. Something about the hilarity of watching a 1-15 team bumble around drew me in. Maybe it was knowing that the bar was set so low, that just seeing a win—any win–would bring great joy. Maybe it was the buzz about how the Jets were going to draft someone named Peyton Manning. (Thanks for declining the draft and staying at Tennessee, fucker). It was probably a desire to just be different. That same sense of wanting to be different that has dictated my following of the perennial losers from Queens and Long Island.
Tim Tebow-ner Comment of the Week
Posted in Tebow-ner on January 27th, 2010 by That's My QuarterbackIt’s Wednesday.
Which means we post a ridiculous comment about Tim Tebow.
Because it’s Hump Day.
And Tebow doesn’t hump.
Allegedly.
AM-I-RIGHT?!
(sticks out hand for high-five)

Tim Tebow Didn't Vote for Pedro
Tim Tebow-ner Comment of the Week
Posted in Tebow-ner on January 20th, 2010 by That's My QuarterbackGood Morning y’all. Let’s wind up the funny again after that last post.
We’re going to be instituting a new running series. Obviously the title is above. Let’s explain.
Tim Tebow is obviously an astoundingly good college football player, possibly one of the greatest of all time. His career stats speak for themselves. He was an integral part of two national championship teams. He has won a Heisman trophy and been a finalist two other years. He is, by all accounts, a fiery, take-charge leader who doubles as a volunteering virgin. His post-game speech following a home loss to Mississippi in 2008 is now the stuff of legend. We have to believe what has been shoved down our throats by ESPN and other media outlets, and therefore, we have been convinced he is among the very best of what college athletics should stand for.
Football and my Father – A Complicated Relationship
Posted in General on January 19th, 2010 by That's My QuarterbackIt’s been a little while since we’ve posted anything here. November and December is always a busy time of year, with all the family stuff and required sitting-around-and-doing-nothing time. Anyway, we apologize for not posting anything during what has been an extremely exciting month of football. We’ll come at you in the next few days with some good stuff, including whowethoughttheywere’s extremely opinionated, biased take on why the Jets playing for the chance to go to the Super Bowl means so much to him.
That said, we’re going in a different direction with this post. Please read on.
I still see the red of the uniforms. The simple, bright red contrasted against the pristine gold of the helmets and crisp, white block lettering. Before the straightforward red took on some new, complicated “cool” maroon color in the sweep of uniform changes in the mid to late 90’s, I loved the uniforms of the San Francisco 49ers. Chalk it up to being a child and rooting for the best team and not fully understanding why I should be a fan of the hometown Eagles, I loved the 49ers as a kid. Maybe it was the red uniforms. Maybe it was their high-flying west-coast offense, led by Steve Young, Jerry Rice, and Ricky Watters. Maybe it was their big-play defense, with starts like Ken Norton Jr., Bryant Young, and Deion Sanders. Say what you want about Deion and his deficiencies on being a complete cornerback or even his shadiness as a “hired gun” by agent Eugene Parker, but if you’re under the age of 25 and didn’t feel thoroughly excited every time Neon Deion touched the ball, you’re lying. The dude was electric. I remember really pulling for the 49ers to win the Super Bowl in 1994* for all of these reasons, and also because I hated the Cowboys so much. For some reason, I remember hating the Cowboys before I remember loving the Eagles. Anyway, I don’t remember any specific plays or moments from this season. I was all of eight years old. Most of all, I remember the red of the uniforms streaking down the field for yet another 49er touchdown. That was a year before my dad almost died.
